Staff

Tony Sportiello, Artistic Director-Tony has been writing and producing plays in New York City since 1989. Some shows which have been produced include "Absent Friends", "Suicide Rings", "The Bet", "Tickets, Please!", "Shattered Glass", "Second Chance", "National Pastime", "Wild Thing" and "Love On Trial". He was the co-Artistic Director of the Madison Avenue Theater from 1991-1994. His one-act play "Contract Time" was entered into the Hall of Fame Library in Cooperstown, New York, making him an official member of the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.

Riley Jones-Cohen, Executive Director

Riley, an accountant, has been an administrator in the not-for-profit world for about 15 years. She is an actor and has worked in many other areas of theater productions…as stage manager, production manager, wardrobe supervisor, director and properties acquisition…on and off-Broadway.


Stephen Roylance, and Greg Skura, Production Directors

Stephen works with Sheila as co-facilitator of the Writer's Meetings as well as acting as a liaison between the writers and the staff. He is a writer, director, and actor. Stephen has won an OOBR (Off-Off Broadway Review) Award for directing, and an Irving Karkower Award for playwriting.


Greg has been a member of the Workshop since 1996. He is an actor and a director, and has worked at theatres up and down the east coast, as well as in television and film. Greg graduated from Tufts University, and trained extensively at Michael Howard Studios and with Joseph Chaikin.

Jenny Greeman, Administrative Director - Jenny is the newest staff member, joining in the summer of 2000. She oversees the administrative aspects of the company and manages rehearsal schedules, house managers, stage managers, publicity, and works with the rest of the staff on developing and producing the members' works. Jenny is an actress and singer, recently appearing at the

Workshop in "St. Brendan's"by Fred Pezzulli. She has worked as a stage manager, production assistant, associate producer, and director off-Broadway and in the comedy world.

Tim Harris, Literary Manager

Scott C. Sickles, Dramaturge
Scott C. Sickles (Playwright) received his MFA in dramatic writing from
Carnegie Mellon University, where he has also served as an adjunct lecturer in
specializing in new play development. His plays have been performed Off-Off-Broadway, across the U.S., in Canada and Australia. He is a recipient of a Pennsylvania Council of the Arts Fellowship for his play Shepherd's Bush, and the 1999 Beverly Hills Theatre Guild/ Julie Harris Playwriting Award for his play Lightning From Heaven. His one-act play, "murmurs", has been published by Samuel French, Inc. Workshop audiences are familiar with his short plays "The Harmonic Convergence," "Sarcophagus," "The Open Window," "The Story-Teller," and "The Antique Shoppe."  He also produced his one-act "Beautiful Noises" representing the Workshop at The Publicity Tree.  He is pleased to once again collaborate with director Michael Montel.  Current projects in development include a musical about the treason of Benedict Arnold with composer Ryan McClead, and a backstage comedy with Paula D'Alessandris entitled Perfecting the Kiss.

Jim Doyle, Newsletter

Jim is a founding member of the 42nd Street Workshop. He started the newsletter in late 1994. He is a writer who has had three full-length and five short plays produced at the Workshop. Jim is also a member of the Dramatists Guild.

Ben Alexander, Don Donnellan (Bio not available yet)
Ben has been writing plays, or attempting to, since he moved to New York City at the start of 1989. His one claim to being published is that a monologue from his full-length play "Phantom Rep" was included in the Smith & Kraus volume "The Best Women's Stage Monologues of 1994" after the play itself was produced at the Madison Avenue Theatre. His one-acts include "To Be the Next Connie Hudson," "The Soul of Justin's Muse," and "Three O'Clock in the Morning," and some of his recent or forthcoming full-length works are "Tavern on the Net" (about life in an internet chat room), "Chemistry Lab" (about a secret gay relationship in a small New England town), and "Jocelyn" (a dramatic critique of the new reality-based television). Ben is also a doctoral student in history at the City University of New York Graduate Center, with a specialization in ethnicity and immigrant experiences.
